Well I had a good talk and a preview of EFiX at state. Its pretty amazing, the Boot Selector has a very nice GUI. Shows all your hard drives and DVD & Cd drives. All the Icons have a nice shadow over them, when selected over a drive you get a nice glow pulse from the center of the icon. Future Skins can be added later on. Huge support for Gigabyte boards.

The EFiX device its self is very small and thin. If you don’t have enough room in your case, don’t worry it comes with a 10 cm extension cable so you can put it whatever way you want. The Leopard installation on your hard drive isn’t even changed. You can literally take the hard drive out and plug it in to a Mac and it will work. Retail DVD loads really fast, and can install straight from it, Disk Utility works. Time Machine works. Apple Software updates work like a charm, He updated from 10.5.1 all the way thru to 10.5.4 seamlessly, with no trouble at all and everything was working. The System Profiler shows your information as if it was a real Mac. For the “Model Identifier” it shows Mac Pro 3,1. For sound works but not all channels, they are working on a Sound Driver that will do all channels. For video they were using a 8800 GTS Asus. Which is also working, with sleep too. 8 Gbs of Memory, and a Intel Quad Core Q6660 processor. Its Amazing, Don’t worry I asked many questions.
- It will appear by resales about 15th of August latest
- For Apple Commands “No, Firewire function , also the function to transform an PC in to an Firewire Device is not implemented this”
- The Boot Selector is an GUI for start of Mac OS or any other Operating systems. “We work on Boot selector probably every day, to polish it to make more functions etc”
- The Firmware Updater will be available hopefully this week, but its useless if you do not have EFiX. Its very similar to Bios Updates. It runs in the Background, but takes near no CPU power.
- What is EFi- X™ IC? “EFiX IC is an Integrated Circuit, basically for OEM usage for Mainboard manufacturing, It can be as an IC which communicate to BUS or it can be as well an IC which replace the bios with this.”
- They have a Laptop version but will not be published till they get more support from Notebook Manufactures
- The Difference Between V1 and V2 is that V1 is for normal people who just need their PC to work. V2 is a debug version which will have universal drivers for testing on. But won’t accept testing results made by V1.
- The PCI version will come at a later time. PCI is the same as the USB version.
- The PCI version makes them able to use on AMD base boards. They are thinking of a USB version for AMD, but don’t have support for it.
- If they had AMD’s support it would have gone much more smoother.
- They write all the drivers by themselves, So, its not like Psystar who stole from Netkas and OSX86
- Bluetooth and Sound Version coming soon.
- Boot Camp is the only Application that is not supported by EFiX.
EFiX was started one year ago for only themselves but people had told them to release it so they did.
More updates to come soon.
