iPhoto’09 anticipation…

iPhoto’09 with great new possibilities

Apple Victoria Gardens

Apple Victoria Gardens

After a very welcome release of the new iLife’09 and iWork’09 products on this Tuesday of January. And reading up on the exciting product page on Apple.com of the product. I was excited to get my hands on a copy of it today. But upon calling the Victoria Gardens Apple Store, I was disappointed to find out that the store doesn’t carry the newly released iLife’09.

I can’t wait to get my hands on it since it contains the new iPhoto’09 and the technologies built-into this new piece of software is by far the greatest of all-time.

Back when Riya.com came out during the times when flickr was on top of everyones list. Riya offered face recognition and with the ability of getting a beta account the uploads were unlimited as opposed to the limit flickr had of a maximum 2gb per month with a pro account you could get away with the limitation… but you’d still have to tag and label and caption every single photo.

Riya's Face Recognition

Now I know most people take photos of people and events in which there are pictures of people and you want to be able to track these photos by looking up peoples faces. Riya had the face recognition technology which would over time automatically tag your photos and the people in it and for your great convenience. But again it was the beginning of something new and i never got around to upload my 15,000+ photos and the internet connection while it was fast I didn’t have the time to upload them all.

Google's PicasaWeb

Then about 2-3 months ago Google introduced the technology in their picasaweb product the ability to recognize faces and ofcourse brought that same concept which was introduced by riya in 2005. But ofcourse with Google you’re limited to a 1GB storage space alloted to the photos and to purchase additional space is well another place to spend money.

iPhoto Faces

Coming back to iPhoto’09. With what I’ve read on www.apple.com/ilife/iphoto its got the best of both worlds.

  1. I’ve got unlimited space to store my photos (on my own pc)
  2. The ability to recognize faces and label them done via the software
  3. The ability to share these great photos on facebook from within the app, and ofcourse facebook photo limitation is unheard of so far, we’ll see what happens in the future.

So I can’t wait for my iPhoto’09.

I haven’t looked too deep into the new iMovie, iWeb and GarageBand but we’ll review those in the near future.

Thanks for listening!
